what is
Montessori?
Montessori is a Method of Education based on self-directed hands-on activities. They are presented by a Montessori trained teacher called a Guide, and use materials specially designed for small hands. This method of instruction was created by Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the first female physicians in Italy, in 1896. The Montessori Method focuses on presenting the child with concrete, self-correcting materials. Self-motivated progress is at the core of Montessori, so these lessons are presented without children being praised for every accomplishment, and focuses the child on knowledge they obtain as their greatest reward.
why montessori?
Children love Montessori because they have the freedom to explore the different Montessori Curriculum Areas. These areas include: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Science, Cultural, Geography, and many others. Children also feel safe and secure in the sense of control they are given, and in the familiarity they develop with the environment. Both of these things help children develop a better sense of independence and self-esteem through emphasizing concentration and confidence. In Montessori education we aim to foster a deep sense of curiosity and exploration in our students. With the goals being to educate the whole child and to encourage lifelong learning both in, and out of, an educational environment.
